ABOUT VYATRA

Yatra is the Hindi word for a journey. V-yatra is a virtual one.

We take classrooms to places that are sacred, spectacular, or simply too far away — live, guided by real hosts standing on real ground, with students asking questions as it happens.

Born from a love of places

Each of us has felt the joy of travelling to a place and connecting with all that it stands for — its sights and sounds, its history, its way of life. Vyatra exists to share that feeling.

'20

The first virtual journeys

When travel stopped, we started. Vyatra was conceived as a series of live, interactive virtual journeys to places that are sacred, spectacular or difficult to get to — accompanied by live music, guided by hosts who know each place deeply.

'24

Into the classroom

Teachers kept telling us the same thing: this belongs in schools. We mapped our journeys to the Australian Curriculum and began delivering them as live in-class excursions — first to assembly halls full of students.

'25

Classroom by classroom

We pivoted from assembly-hall events to classroom-by-classroom delivery — sessions run whenever a class has that topic scheduled. Trivial to organise, no AV setup, and true live interactivity. Engagement rose. Retention improved.

'26

Every school came back

Every school that booked in 2025 returned in 2026 — with expanded session counts. Students rate the journeys ~4.4/5 for engagement, and post-session quiz accuracy sits around 84%.

What we believe

LIVE BEATS RECORDED

A video can be paused. A live host can be questioned. The moment a student realises the person on screen can answer them is the moment the place becomes real.

TRAVEL LIGHTLY

Many of the places we visit have sensitive ecologies and communities. A virtual journey carries thirty students to Uluru or the Mara with no buses, no flights, no footprint.

RESPECT THE PLACE

We work with the people a place belongs to — local guides, custodians and communities, like the Rirratjingu in East Arnhem Land — so students hear each story told rightly.

The Bark Petitions, and cultural permission

Our Bark Petitions journey, broadcast from East Arnhem Land, is delivered in partnership with the Yirrkala and Rirratjingu communities, with cultural-use permission for how this history is shared. It isn't stock content — it's presented with, not just about, the people whose history it is.
