Vyatra co-founder Saurabh Mishra awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM)

We wanted to share a piece of news the Vyatra team is particularly proud of.

Vyatra co-founder Saurabh Mishra was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in this year’s King’s Birthday Honours List, for service to the community through a range of organisations.

We were especially delighted to learn that Saurabh’s work through Vyatra formed part of the contribution recognised in the citation. As a small team building something new in education, it is gratifying to see educational innovation recognised alongside community service, the arts and healthcare.

The person behind the presenter

Many of you will know Saurabh as a presenter of our virtual learning sessions and through his participation in teachers’ conferences. Some of you may have also met him during visits to your schools. What you may not know is that alongside Vyatra, he has spent over twenty years mentoring Australian entrepreneurs through TiE, nineteen years volunteering with Eastern Palliative Care, and over a decade supporting music and community theatre in Australia.

He has also spent more than two decades building healthcare technology ventures aimed at improving communication and access to care — including helping pioneer electronic pathology messaging, digital palliative care records, and pharmacy–patient engagement platforms used by millions of Australians.

Shaped by teachers

The award has prompted us to reflect on the role that teachers and schools have played in shaping Vyatra. Many of our best ideas have come directly from educator feedback, classroom observations and conversations with curriculum leaders around the country. We are deeply grateful to all of you who have supported the journey.

Meet Saurabh in person

During the second half of the year, Saurabh will be spending time in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane meeting with teachers, faculty leaders and school leadership teams. If you would like to discuss how live, interactive virtual journeys might support your History, Geography or Religious Education programs, we would be delighted to arrange a visit — get in touch.

Thank you for your ongoing support of Vyatra and, more importantly, for the work you do every day in helping young people engage with the wider world. We look forward to continuing that journey together.
