Child safety and child protection policy

Purpose

Vyatra is committed to providing a safe, respectful and inclusive learning environment for all children and young people who participate in its educational programs. This policy outlines Vyatra's commitment to child safety and the measures it takes to protect children from abuse, neglect, exploitation and harm during the delivery of its virtual learning experiences.

Scope

This policy applies to all Vyatra directors, employees, contractors, presenters, anchors, producers, guides, volunteers and any other personnel involved in the planning or delivery of Vyatra programs involving children under the age of 18 years.

Commitment to child safety

Vyatra believes that all children have the right to feel safe, respected and protected from harm. Vyatra is committed to:

• Promoting the safety, wellbeing and participation of children.
• Creating educational experiences that are safe, respectful and inclusive.
• Taking all reasonable steps to prevent child abuse, exploitation and inappropriate conduct.
• Complying with applicable Australian child protection laws and regulations.
• Responding appropriately to concerns relating to child safety.

Working with children requirements

Any Vyatra personnel who interact directly with Australian school students are required to hold a current Working With Children Check or equivalent clearance where applicable. Vyatra maintains records of relevant clearances and requires personnel to immediately disclose any circumstance that may affect their eligibility to work with children.

Delivery of sessions

Vyatra programs are delivered through schools and educational institutions. To support child safety:

• A teacher or authorised school representative must be present throughout the session.
• Sessions are conducted using school-approved communication platforms.
• Vyatra personnel must not arrange private meetings with students.
• Vyatra personnel must not communicate directly with students outside approved educational settings.
• Student participation occurs under the supervision of their school.

Expected standards of behaviour

All personnel involved in Vyatra programs must:

• Treat children with dignity, courtesy and respect.
• Use age-appropriate and culturally appropriate language.
• Maintain professional boundaries at all times.
• Avoid any behaviour that may be perceived as intimidating, discriminatory, exploitative or inappropriate.
• Follow the directions of participating schools regarding student welfare and safety.

The following conduct is prohibited:

• Bullying, harassment or discrimination.
• Inappropriate physical or verbal interactions.
• Private communication with students outside approved channels.
• Taking or sharing images of students without appropriate consent.
• Any conduct that places a child at risk of harm.

Reporting concerns

Any concern regarding the safety or wellbeing of a child must be reported immediately to the Project Director or an authorised Vyatra representative. Where appropriate, concerns will be referred to the participating school and relevant authorities in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. All reports will be treated seriously and handled confidentially.

Online safety

Vyatra recognises the importance of protecting children in online environments. To support online safety:

• Sessions are conducted through secure and approved platforms.
• Schools retain responsibility for supervising participating students.
• Recording of sessions is only undertaken with appropriate permissions.
• Student personal information is collected only where necessary and managed in accordance with applicable privacy requirements.

Review

This policy will be reviewed periodically and updated as required to ensure continued compliance with child safety obligations and best practice standards.
